India the land of culture and tradition has deep roots of spirituality and religion. India is also the birthplace of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. India when seen at a glance looks a colourful composition of varied religions, cultures, traditions and beliefs. Every year thousands of visitors frequent these religious places and temples owing to the religious importance and significance these temple carry. Many people regardless of their religion offer various things in cash and kind. It is not a bribe but a token of respect, faith and belief. The base that bears the ‘Adi Granth’ (Guru Granth Sahib) is studded with precious stones, gems and diamonds. The canopy around the Guru Granth Sahib is made in gold and silver.

Apart from the local visitors various tourists from rest of the country also visit this temple. The dome over Ganesha is coated in 3.7 kilos of gold that was donated by a Kolkata based businessman.On an average the per year income of the temple goes up to Rs. 48 crores and fixed deposits of Rs 125 crore.

Another very popular pilgrim site in India is Shirdi Sai baba. It is frequented by people of every religion as it is said that the religion of Sai baba is unknown. All he preached in his entire life was a slogan that said ‘Sabka malik Ek hai’ translated as ‘God is One’. The temple has gold and silver jewellery worth approximately Rs 32 crore and silver coins worth more than Rs 6 lakh. The temple gets donations worth Rs 350 crore every year.

The second richest temple in India is Tirupati Balaji Temple. The per day visitor count at this temple is approximately 60,000. Many renowned celebrities from bollywood, sports and business industry keep visiting this place. Every time they visit several generous donations are made to the temple.The temple gets up to Rs 650 crore in donations every year. The gold on the deity itself weighs1000 kg.

1. Padmanabhaswamy Temple

The riches of all the temples in India is the Padmanabhaswamy temple. The temple has six secret chambers. 4 out of these chambers houses the documents and other valuable, but chamber A and chamber B stores the valuables and cash donated and offered by devotees. Recently in June 2011, a committee of 7 member opened Chamber A and found treasures worth $20bn. The treasure belongs to the Travancore Royal Family. The committee found tonnes of gold coins & jewellery, sacks of diamonds and other precious stones lying untouched from thousands of years. Chamber ‘B’ is however not opened yet. It is just one chamber that made Padmanabhaswamy temple the richest in The world.
